I'm a civil engineer who investigates why structures fail. I write about the ethics and judgment behind engineering decisions.

I have more than 20 years of experience in the planning, design, and construction of civil, environmental, and water resource engineering projects. I have consulted on hundreds of cases across the U.S., including dams, levees, culverts, bridges, slope and channel stabilization, water supply, conveyance, and drainage systems, fish passage, environmental mitigation and restoration, and waste storage facilities.
